Police Continue Purge on Radio Dialogue

Police indicated they had information the community radio station is trying to sabotage the ongoing Zimbabwe International Trade Fair.

Police in Bulawayo on Wednesday summoned Radio Dialogue production manager, Zenzele Ndebele, for questioning after searching the community radio station’s offices Tuesday for equipment and documents allegedly capable of disseminating information “harmful to the interests of the state.”

Ndebele said the police, who were from the CID and the CIO departments, were on Tuesday accompanied by officials from the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (POTRAZ).

They searched the Radio Dialogue offices and Ndebele’s place of residence but did not find the alleged equipment.

Ndebele, who was acquitted last month on charges of contravening broadcasting laws, after police seized 180 radio sets during a similar raid said police Wednesday indicated they had information Radio Dialogue was trying to sabotage the the on-going Zimbabwe International Trade Fair in Bulawayo, a move he calls "baffling".
