The founding president of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) Morgan Tsvangirai says Harare might degenerate into chaos as the economic crisis worsens with the ruling Zanu-PF party engaged in serious factional fights.

In an exclusive interview, Tsvangirai said Zimbabweans must come together and map the way forward before the situation deteriorates further in the country.

He said the escalating Zanu PF factionalism has resulted in the party paying too much attention on its internal squabbles than to concentrate on reviving the economy, which has been declining following the 2013 general elections.

President Robert Mugabe’s party won the elections and has insisted that the slumping economy is being affected by targeted sanctions imposed by the West on him and his inner circle accused of alleged election rigging and human rights abuses.

Tsvangirai further noted that there were some differences in the party leadership about the MDC-T’s move to boycott all national elections, including the forthcoming parliamentary by-elections, until Zimbabwe implements tangible electoral reforms.
