Zanu PF says Zimbabweans should commemorate the country’s Independence Day Saturday with pride as thousands of black farmers now own arable land, which was once in the hands of colonial settlers.
The party’s deputy information director, Psychology Maziwisa, told Studio 7 on Friday the theme of this year’s independence anniversary is: Zimbabwe@35: Consolidating unity, peace and economic development.
The public commemorations will be held National Sports Stadium.
Meanwhile, the opposition MDC-T, Mavambo-Kusile Dawn party and several other parties said Zimbabweans should take time Saturday to commemorate the country’s independence though the party believes that President Robert Mugabe’s party has abandoned the principles of the liberation struggle based on one person, one vote.The parties’ read in part, “… The colonial political administration was replaced by an equally oppressive indigenous administration allergic to difference and freedom of political thought.”
And in an Independence Day message Friday, U.S president Barack Obama the United States will continue to support the people of Zimbabwe as they strive to fulfill the promise set forth at independence of a democratic and prosperous nation.
